huey mack

okay so right now i downloaded the mixtape freshman 15 by huey mack hosted by goodmusicallday.com.  there's something about huey mack that i like.  he really sticks to what he knows, and just really keeps it real in every song.  most of his music is based on experiences that he's had.  he doesn't try and just follow the patterns of other rappers.  he is definitely original.  he is 19 and is a rapper out of west virginia.  ill post the link to freshman 15 so you can hear it for yourself!\

wiz khalifa

so as i've gotten older i've come to realize that artists change over time.  it is impossible to rap about the same things before you get famous then you do after you get famous.  it has happened to all my favorite rappers from eminem, to wiz khalifa, to lil wayne.  it wasn't until today when i downloaded wiz khalifa's first mixtape prince of the city: welcome to pistolvania.  wiz is UNBELIEVABLE.  his flow goes so hard and his raps have substance other than weed, money, and hot chicks.  yes, i've admitted that i like wiz's music he's putting out today but part of me wishes he didn't sell out.  i have a video below to one of the songs on his first mixtape mentioned above.  literally music to my ears.

follow up to philly rappers

so i realize the other day i was pretty negative when talking about meek mill's new music.  i was more critical than constructive so i just want to point out a couple new songs meek's put out that i actually have liked.  videos below let me know what you think!

please note: i'm focusing solely on meek's verses not necessarily the quality of the beat/how annoying rick ross's voice is.  

just...plain awful

soulja boy is probably the WORST rapper ever to gain fame in the history of music.  my ears just bled trying to give one of his mixtapes a listen and i couldn't listen to more of a minute of it.  i know he just went through an awful tragedy losing his little brother and that is so sad but this dude needs to find another way to make his money because his music is literally painful.

philly rappers

meek mill has been my favorite philly rapper (and possibly one of my top 5 of all rappers) ever since he came out with the flamers trilogy.  howerver now that he's been signed to maybach i feel like he's lost his touch a little bit. jahlil beats and meek mill are fire together and i just heard a new song called ham music that actually bored me....i never thought that was possible with meek mill spitting over a jahlil beats track but it did.  i can't describe into words how disappointed i am that fame may have altered meek's ability to create a hard track every time.  i find him harder to listen to now.  he received a lot of critique over the way he rapped in his mixtapes because he tended to yell, but i actually like that more than the way he's spitting now.  now i just find that i'm waiting for the song to be over and i feel like he's rapping about the same things over and over again.  talkin about some amount of money on his neck is different than another amount of money on his wrist...it's the same line in different songs and it's just plain boring.   below i have the track i just listened to (that i didn't love) and a track from flamers 2 (my favorite meek mill mixtape).  you decide which is better.

one more thing before i go.  a while back, right when wiz khalifa released his mixtape cabin fever, i was saying how i felt wiz fell off his game a little.  i take that back.  fame didn't change him i just needed to adjust to the new style of music he was putting out.  i think wiz finally found his niche in the music industry and i applaud him.  i got out and bought rolling papers (his new album) and i love it.  it's on repeat in my car.  that being said there's a chance i need to adjust to meek mill's new style as well, but we'll have to wait and see.  til then i'll just keep playing mixtapes.

artist recognition

so i've just finished up watching some interviews with tyler, the creator aka wolf haley.  this kid is 19 and has a humongous ego that either turns people away from him or attracts people to him.  he is very different in that he doesn't rap about the same stuff that every other rapper does.  he isn't afraid to rebel and he said that he's rebelled ever since he started kindergarten.  i'm still not quite sure how i feel about him.  i love that he's so different than other rappers out there, but the thing that turns me off to his music is his flow.  that's something that could grow on me though so i'm giving him a chance.  his lyrics can be very controversial for example his song vcr talks about rape (this song got a lot of backlash). the video for this song is unbelievable though.  he produces all of his on music videos.  he just released a new album called goblin that's available on itunes.  below i have the video for vcr as well as his well known song yonkers.

so i just want to take this time to rave about an artist that i've grown to like very much.  only recently has his name been circulating, but many only know him as Donald Glover the comedian.  however Donald Glover is also an amazing rapper named Childish Gambino.  this kid brings his comedy to his music making it one of a kind.  here is one of my favorite songs by him and i strongly recommend downloading his mixtape cul-de-sac from datpiff.com

basically, he grew up like any normal kid but he went to a primarily white school where he was picked on for being different.  being an outcast during his childhood is really what propelled him to the success that he is having today.

as always i never walk to class without listening to something good.  i have way too much music on my ipod to be able to sift efficiently through good tracks via shuffle so i have playlists labelled good rap and good alternative since those are primarily the two genres i listen to.  anyway some old lil wayne popped up and it made me realize how much harder he went in on his tracks back when he recorded tha block is hot, lights out, and tha carters 1&2.  with the exception of 6 foot 7 foot, i really don't see what happened to him. probably the fame and the drugs caught up with him but i'll let you decide for yourselves which you like better.  the first track is from lights out which was released late 2000.  the second track is from tha carter 3.  let me know which one you think is better.

ps i like both of these songs so dont get it twisted. im just noting on the lack of lyricism from the first to the second...could be because he ran out of things to say but who knows except for him

Welcome music lovers.  I plan on using this to as a way to express my feelings towards music coming out today, as well as show you music that you may not be aware of.  Yes, there are a ton of music sites out there, but I'm here to tell you what's worth listening to and what isn't.  For starters, I look for music on datpiff.com, goodmusicallday.com, hotnewhiphop.com, and hdmixtapes.com everyday so if you are interested in rap/hip-hop music and want to download the newest tracks to date I suggest checking out those sites.
